Description
The statue depicts a martyred saint in dark silver, bound to a wooden tree. His contorted body is draped in a simple cloth knotted at the hip and pierced by four silver arrows. The ensemble rests on a rectangular wooden reliquary adorned with metal decorations. An oval glass window at the center of the base allows the relic contained within to be viewed. The piece bears a hallmark featuring the letter A in saltire, indicating production in Annecy between 1678 and 1703. To date, it remains the only known example of this type of production in Haute-Savoie.
